Zach Buckey, a senior at Garces Memorial High in Bakersfield, won the boys discus throw with a personal-best effort and state-leading mark of 190 feet (57.91m) in his final high school competition at the CIF Central Section South Area Championships at Liberty High in Bakersfield. Buckey, a Stanford commit, will not be competing at the Central Section Championships on June 19 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High in Clovis because he is leaving June 13 to head to Palo Alto.
