Grant Buckey, a sophomore at Liberty High in Bakersfield, took third in the boys discus throw with an effort of 158-8 (48.36m) competing at home at the CIF Central Section South Area Championships. Buckey advanced to the Central Section Championships on June 19 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High in Clovis.
