Faith Bender, a senior at Liberty High in Bakersfield, won the girls discus throw and shot put competing in her final career home meet at the CIF Central Section South Area Championships. Bender, an Arizona State signee, produced a throw of 163-9 (49.91m) in the discus and had a state-leading mark of 46-6.50 (14.18m) in the shot put. Bender, also the state leader in the discus at 170-9 (52.06m), advanced to compete in both events June 19 at the Central Section Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High in Clovis.
